Lagos, Nigeria: Spotting the #runlagos Signs
Jan 25th, 2018

The annual Lagos marathon comes up in February and we’ve started seeing signs (literally). The #runlagos signs are all over Lagos at the moment and we spotted two today. One in Lekki and another in Victoria island. It’s not quite the “I LOVE LAGOS” sign and the location is a bit off (not exactly the best location to take photos with the signs) but we’ll take it. The organizers of the marathon should consider creating a campaign around the signs. Most people in Lagos are not aware what the signs mean or why they are even there. An internet campaign will excite the public and also create awareness for the event. Maybe have people spot the signs and take photos with it or of it.

NOW IS THE TIME TO TICK “RUNNING A MARATHON” OFF YOUR BUCKET LIST

Running a marathon is a common bucket list item and this is a good opportunity to finally do it. There are two marathons this year; 42KM and 10KM. The prize money is huge too $50,000 – $2,000 for 1st and 10th positions respectively.

As expected, we know the East Africans are going to clear out all the prizes so the organizers have been gracious enough to create a separate category for Nigerian winners.

Interested participants can sign up for either of them and registration is still open. Registration can be done here. Though running a marathon is not a bucket list item for us, we are considering signing up for the 10KM race. Bib collection is important to run the marathon and participants are expected to collect at Teslim Balogun Stadium from 31st January.

We are excited about #runlagos but quite disappointed in the “fun spots in Lagos” suggestion on the website. This marathon can be a great avenue to showcase the huge tourism potentials of the state. The event already has wide media coverage, Africans come from all over the world to participate in the race. We can do a way better job collating “fun spots” in Lagos.

All the very best to everyone participating in the race! We will be cheering you on from the sidelines!
